(Attack) Top 3 Impersonation Scams

Impersonators can contact you via messages, phone calls, emails – often with a sense of urgency that creates panic/fear:

1) Tech support:

  • Pose as: tech support representatives from legitimate companies.
  • Common scams: detected issues with the victim’s account, software, or computer.

2) Financial Institution:

  • Pose as: representatives of banks, credit card companies, or financial service providers.
  • Common scams: deceive victims into believing there is a problem with their accounts or transactions.

3) Government Agency:

  • Pose as: officials or agents of government agencies such as the IRS, Social Security Administration, or law enforcement.
  • Common scams: claims of unpaid taxes, legal violations, or eligibility for government benefits.

Always reach out directly to the service provider through their official channels – such as their main website instead of interacting with the message / call.
